The 13th edition of the South Asian Film Festival of Montr\u00e9al (SAFFM) is being held from 24th May to 2nd June, 2024 in collaboration with La Cin\u00e9math\u00e8que Qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise, and the J.A. DeS\u00e8ve Cinema, Concordia University.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
A platform for filmmakers of South Asian origin worldwide, SAFFMontr\u00e9al presents an eclectic choice of inspiring and thought-provoking films pertinent to Canadian democratic values. With most screenings subtitled in both English and French, the festival is vital and engaging. Film enthusiasts can look forward to over 50 movies, many award-winning, from nine countries in a multitude of languages.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Stealing Vows<\/em><\/a>, the festival’s opening film, presents a thrilling narrative of love, loyalty, and larceny. Directed by Bobby Singh Brown, the movie follows a diverse group of wedding vendors as they embark on a daring summer spree, stealing from the opulent homes of their rich clients. Taking viewers on a rollercoaster ride of heists and hijinks, the film challenges traditional norms while championing representation and diversity on screen. Following the death of the family patriarch, a mother and daughter must grapple with the harsh realities of their shattered existence as they struggle to keep the family afloat. This art-house masterpiece weaves a story about the strength of the human spirit, while blurring the genre lines between supernatural horror and realistic drama. With its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, In Flames<\/em><\/a> has been screened at several festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival, 2023.
