The festival opened with a thrilling narrative of wedding vendors-turned-robbers, <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/stealing-vows\/\">Stealing Vows<\/a> by Bobby Brown Singh, and closed with an unstinting critique of patriarchy through the genre of horror, <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/in-flames\/\">In Flames<\/a>by Zarrar Kahn. The 13th edition SAFFM presented an eclectic collection of films with engaging themes and aesthetic inventiveness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"758\" src=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/SAFFM-cast-and-crw-1024x758.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/SAFFM-cast-and-crw-1024x758.png 1024w, https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/SAFFM-cast-and-crw-300x222.png 300w, https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/SAFFM-cast-and-crw-768x569.png 768w, https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/SAFFM-cast-and-crw-16x12.png 16w, https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/SAFFM-cast-and-crw.png 1182w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>The cast and filmmakers of<em> Stealing Vows <\/em>along with the festival organisers at La Cin\u00e9math\u00e8que Qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Many films screened in-cinema were followed by thought-provoking discussions with the directors, engaging the audiences in meaningful conversations. These discussions enabled the viewers to understand the artistic techniques deployed by the filmmakers and the larger socio-political themes and contexts the films were situated in. Discussions of films such as <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/the-world-is-family\/\">The World is Family<\/a> by Anand Patwardhan, <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/land-of-my-dreams\/\">Land of My Dreams<\/a> by Nausheen Khan, <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/dear-jassi\/\">Dear Jassi<\/a> by Tarsem Singh, <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/colonel-kalsi\/\">Colonel Kalsi<\/a> by Anand Kamlakar and Geeta Gambhir, and <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/mum-singh-2\/\">Mum Singh<\/a> by Karan Singh, stood out for their engagement between the audiences and the directors. Some stunning and impactful in-cinema films that left the audiences utterly awestruck included fiction features<a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/tiger-stripes\/\"> Tiger Stripes<\/a> by Amanda Nell Eu, <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/sthal-a-match\/\">Sthal<\/a> by Jayanta Somalkar, short fiction films <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/kasheer-kaete-where-is-kashmir-2\/\">Kashmir Kaete<\/a> by Arif Bashir and <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/nocturnal-burger\/\">Nocturnal Burger<\/a> by Reema Sengupta, amongst others.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival closed with an award ceremony where films were judged across four categories: Best Feature Film, Best Short Fiction, Best Feature Documentary, and Best Short Documentary. The awards also had Runner-Up and Special Mention as subcategories. <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/in-flames\/\">In Flames<\/a> won the Best Feature Film Award, while <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/esperanza\/\">Esperanza<\/a> by Shruti Parekh bagged the Best Short Fiction Award. <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/chardi-kala-an-ode-to-resilience\/\">Chardi Kala: An Ode to Resilience<\/a>, which is about the 2020 farmer protests in India, was the winner of the Best Feature Documentary. Best Short Documentary went to the brave and riveting documentary about young minority Hindu women in Sindh,<a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/the-losing-side\/\"> The Losing Side<\/a> by Jawad Sharif.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, SAFFM also introduced the category of the festival award, Le Choix Du Festival. This unequivocally went to the unsparing <a href=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/fr\/video\/dear-jassi\/\">Dear Jassi<\/a> which tells the real life story of a couple who struggled to be together in an extremely divisive society characterized by violence, casteism, classism and patriarchy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"759\" src=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/dear-jassi-1024x759.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/dear-jassi-1024x759.png 1024w, https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/dear-jassi-300x222.png 300w, https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/dear-jassi-768x569.png 768w, https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/dear-jassi-16x12.png 16w, https:\/\/saffm.centrekabir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/dear-jassi.png 1223w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>The filmmaker of <em>Dear Jassi<\/em>, Tarsem Singh, along with festival organisers at J.A. DeS\u00e8ve Cinema<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The 13th edition of SAFFM was held from 24th May to 2nd June, 2024 in collaboration with La Cin\u00e9math\u00e8que Qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise, and the J.A. DeS\u00e8ve Cinema, Concordia University. As enthusiastic moviegoers filed in and out of the theaters, the atmosphere buzzed with words of appreciation expressing wonder and awe. Crowds milled in long queues outside these venues in anticipation before all films.
