Short Documentary Film

A riveting documentary about young minority Hindu women and young girls in Sindh, Pakistan who are abducted, raped, and forcibly converted to Islam by Muslim men for monetary gain. Although the protection of minority rights are enshrined in the Pakistani constitution, the laws are not enforced.

Short Fiction Film

Thanks to an excellent screenplay and superb acting, Esperanza depicts both the commonalities and the challenges faced by immigrants from different countries, highlighting the sacrifices and compromises they are forced to make as they try to find a better life for themselves and their families.

This poetic narration of war-torn Kashmir through the eyes of a young boy is both poignant and political. At the end of the film while looking for radio stations, the boy’s father asks, ``Where is Kashmir?`` The mother answers, “Somewhere in between.” The film underscores the suffering of ordinary people in the midst of the war between India and Pakistan for territorial control.
