A Kathak dancer navigates a journey of distress, struggle and hope as she witnesses history repeating itself, pondering whether humanity can break the cycle of its own making.
Synopsis
Priyanka, a young South Asian woman living in Canada, is enjoying a relaxed picnic with her friends on a breezy summer day. Suddenly, her mind wanders into an internal conflict as she is reminded of the horrors taking place in today’s world. Her internal character, a Kathak dancer, is found in a dark shadowy room, left to grapple with the chaos of the world.
The Kathak dancer is in a state of distress. She knows that the problems of today are not unique, but rather just another version of the same issues that continue to repeat in society. Pointing her finger at humanity, she struggles to understand why this occurs and if there is truly any hope of breaking free of these self – inflicted shackles. The issues that repeat include genocide, abuse towards women and natural disasters caused by climate changes. Her anger and disgust melt into struggle, until it feels like her anxiety is a balloon that is about to burst.
Suddenly, there is a shift in her thinking as she decides to not let her internal voice be persecuted by despair. She chooses to rise up, to celebrate small moments of joy. She decides within herself that “hope” and love are the keys to breaking the cycle. The film concludes as she emerges back into reality and takes a moment of gratitude, observing all of the good around her.
